Raja Janak was the descendant of Shiva and the bow of Shiva was kept here. Raja Janak had said that the king who will break the bow he will only give Sitanamta.

And it was decided that it should be destroyed before the common man. Now it was decided to choose the right person for organizing and destroying Devshi Vishwamitra, then Sita Swamvar was organized and it was destroyed by Prabhu Shriramji.
